The repairs on a transmission tower which went down close to Onitsha will cause the cutting off 300megawatts (mw) power from the national grid.
Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, disclosed this on Thursday, June 16, at the inauguration of the Podium, a town hall meeting platform of the Kukah Centre in Abuja.
He noted that the 55kilometre repair works should last for two weeks and that the hydropower Generation companies (Gencos) will help to bridge the gap.
Lamenting that only 5074mw capacity has been attained in 66 years of generation of electricity in Nigeria, the minister said “our first step is getting more power through many phases by deploying the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) plan, using solar, biomass and wind energy, completing the TCN projects and the NIPPs projects.”
Fashola said government was solving electricity supply constraints in three phases, including incremental, steady and uninterrupted power supply.
