The United Bank for Africa (UBA) has appointed 30 students from 10 universities across the country with proven leadership and creative skills as the bank’s Campus Ambassador for 2018.

According to the bank, the campus ambassadors are expected to exhibit the core values of the bank: “They need to show the spirit of excellence in whatever they do; they need to show the spirit of execution and enterprise. Life is tough, we need people in the country who will be able to execute these qualities to make the country a better place.”

The Executive Director and Group Chief Operation Officer, Mr. Chuks Nweke during the unveiling of the ambassadors reiterated the bank’s commitment to youth development and youth engagement.

“We believe that the youths are the future of every country so we selected the best from the universities to collaborate with them to build their leadership skills and creative skills so that they can be better citizens if they decide to go to the public sector or the private sector to work for the land.”

Nweke said the students were selected after an assessment to ensure that they possess the qualities that UBA prides itself. “You need to show that you have the spirit of enterprise, excellence and that you do what you say you will do, which is execution. These qualities are dear to us.

“The important thing is to make sure that those we select are the people that have these qualities, the passion to be able to project the brand and what UBA stands for, our core values which are enterprise, excellence and execution.”

He said beyond being ambassadors for UBA, the bank would work with them to develop the leadership skills that they have.

The Student Banking Manager, Ezekiel Adisa also stated that as part of the six-month training, each ambassador would execute a specific project meant to add value to the society. They would also undergo a one-month internship programme at any UBA branch after which they would be paid.
