Plateau State government and the Centre for Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering of the University of Jos have expressed willingness to partner with farmers in the state to boost food production in the country.
Speaking on the occasion of the 3rd Farmfair/workshop held at Bokkos local government area of Plateau state organised by the university and the state government, the vice chancellor of the institution , Prof. Hayward Mafuyai, who was represented by the director of centre, Prof. Timothy Namo said the fair is aimed at fostering a working relationship with farmers.
“ The fare is also to showcase to the world the rich bio-resource potentials of Plateau and help researchers to develop proposals aimed at tackling problems encountered by farmers.’’
He stressed that the centre is one of the six biotechnology centres of excellence established in each of the geo political zones by the National Biotechnology Development Agency (NABDA )in 2003.
“Our main objective is to ensure that biotechnology is profitably applied to governments stewardship such as assurance of high quality, health services, food security, environmental protection and safety.”
