Nigeria’s Super Eagles have retained 26th position in the latest FIFA/Coca-Cola Men’s World Ranking but have fallen to fourth in Africa after Egypt moved ahead following its strong performance at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The updated rankings released by FIFA on Monday left Nigeria’s global position unchanged after the team’s most recent outing, a 2-1 friendly defeat to Portugal in June. With no competitive matches played since then, the result had little effect on the country’s overall standing.
Egypt climbed above Nigeria in the continental rankings after reaching the Round of 16 at the World Cup before exiting in a 3-2 defeat to eventual finalists Argentina.
Morocco remains Africa’s highest-ranked nation after advancing to the quarter-finals of the tournament. The Atlas Lions also improved their global position, rising to sixth in the world, their highest-ever ranking.
Senegal retained second place in Africa despite slipping three places globally, while Egypt now occupies third on the continent. Algeria completes Africa’s top five.
At the top of the global rankings, Spain reclaimed the number one position after defeating Argentina 1-0 after extra time in the FIFA World Cup final. Argentina dropped to second, while France, England and Brazil complete the world’s top five.
Among the biggest movers, Norway climbed 12 places to 19th after reaching the World Cup quarter-finals, while co-host Mexico returned to the top 10 after rising four places.
FIFA said its next men’s world rankings will be published on Oct. 7.
