A pressure group, Media Network Against Corruption, has appealed to the Independent Petroleum Marketers to be patriotic, selfless and supportive of the sterling and pragmatic measures put in place by the minister of state, Petroleum Resources, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu to arrest the lingering fuel crisis across the country.
The National Coordinator of the group, comrade James Okoronkwo, who made the appeal, stated that the downstream petroleum sector is very strategic to the socio-economic running of the nation.
Okoronkwo condemned the nefarious activities of some Independent Petroleum Marketers who according to him have held the nation hostage by thwarting the efforts of Kachikwu to enhance the availability of the product.
According to him, truckloads of PMS are being diverted to neighboring countries and the black market by some unscrupulous independent petroleum marketers day by day.
He appealed to the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR), the immigration and other security agencies to check this economic sabotage.
Okoronkwo further appealed to the independent petroleum marketers to embrace and support the current measures put in place to arrest fuel scarcity in Nigeria.
The group commended President Muhammad for the overhaul of the oil industry and the recent re-commissioning of the 46km Escravos – Warri Pipeline destroyed by vandals, saying that this will greatly tackle the perennial fuel scarcity in country as well as improve power generation.
