Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party’s nominee for president, has pleaded with the Supreme Court to consider new evidence against President Bola Tinubu.
His primary attorney, Chris Uche, SAN, spoke in court on Monday and called the situation a serious constitutional issue. He requested that the application be accepted and their desire be granted.
He stated, “The Supreme Court should accept that the problem regarding Mr. Tinubu’s certificate is one that is significant, serious, and constitutional. I implore the court to accept the new proof of President Tinubu’s CSU academic transcripts that Atiku has provided.
“The Supreme Court must take a look at Mr Tinubu’s records and reach a decision devoid of technicality”.
On his part, INEC lawyer, Abubakar Mahmoud, urged the Supreme Court to dismiss Atiku’s application seeking to present Tinubu’s academic records.
Meanwhile, Tinubu’s lead counsel, Wole Olanipekun, SAN, argued that INEC should have been a party at the deposition proceedings in the US, noting that the CSU depositions are dormant until the deponent comes to court and testify.
He told the court that Atiku cannot seek fresh evidence at the Supreme Court.
