The Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Works, Mr Ephraim Inyangeyen, has assured the people that his Ministry will ensure that all inherited and ongoing road projects in the state are completed in record time.
Inyangeyen stated this in Uyo when he received award of the Most Proactive Commissioner in Governor Udom Emmanuel led- administration by the Bureau of Investigative Journalism.
He explained that most of the road projects would have been completed since, but for the raining season which has slowed down the effort of the contractors handling them. He promised that as soon as the dry season approaches, many of them will be commissioned by the state governor.
The commissioner lamented the unwholesome attitude of some individuals who clandestinely erect tomb stones and other structures on construction sites to collect huge compensation from the state government thereby frustrating the good intention of the state government.
‘’We would have finished some of the roads, but government efforts are being frustrated by some individuals, who, in their quest to make easy money, erects overnight tomb stones of late relations and local shrines on lands meant for road projects.
But in his magnanimity, Governor Udom Emmanuel has paid compensation to almost all the people whose structures were demolished without recourse to the issue of certificate of occupancy or survey plan to pave way for quick delivery of the roads in the state,” he said.
Earlier, the chairman of the Bureau, Alhaji Aminu Ebong, said that the award was bestowed on the commissioner for his immense contribution to the radical infrastructure development of the state.
