Nigeria owned telecommunications network, Globacom, has maintained its lead in new internet subscriber acquisition for the month of February, 2016, making it the 12th consecutive month of its lead.
According to a recent data report released by the telecoms industry regulator, Glo gained 248, 593 new internet subscribers while many other players in the industry lost internet subscribers in the month of February.
The report shows that Globacom increased its data subscribers from 25, 436, 244 in January to 25,684,837 in February 2016. Airtel trailed behind, moving its data subscribers from 16,855,609 to 17,079,646 with a gain of 224, 037 subscribers in the same period.
Etisalat shed 52,251 internet subscribers in the month under review moving from a total of 15,283,903 in January to 15,231,652 in February.
The worst hit was MTN which lost 2,614,489 million internet subscribers in February. The network which had 38,218,859 million internet subscribers in the month of January was depleted to 35,604,370 in February.
The telecommunications industry generally lost a total of 2,194,110 internet subscribers.
As at February 2016, a total number of 93.75 million internet subscribers remained on all the networks as against the 95.94 million subscribers that used the internet on all the networks in January.
