The World Health Organisation(WHO) has confirmed another case of polio infection in Monguno community of Borno State.

According to the WHO, the virus has been circulating undetected for five years in Borno State, where Boko Haram began its uprising in 2009.

The infection which is about the third since the outbreak in an Internally Displaced Persons(IDPs) camp in Monguno local government area of Borno State.

The report also noted that the WHO had earlier confirmed the case of an affected toddler who has been crippled. It reads, “World Health Organisation is confirming a third case of polio in Nigeria: a crippled toddler found in an area newly liberated from Boko Haram Islamic extremists.”

It further pointed out that it may be difficult to stamp out polio especially in crisis torn areas.

Aminu Muhammad, who is the Field Coordinator of the Rotary Club stated that the new case was found in Monguno local government area, adding that they had only been able to engage the “hit and run” tactics to immunise the children in the crisis areas.
