TCIP Customs Honours Outstanding Officers, Records Revenue Surge

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Tin Can Island Port Command, on Wednesday honoured outstanding officers at its 2024/2025 Awards and Special Recognition Ceremony, as the command announced that it had exceeded its 2025 revenue target with collections of over ₦1.6 trillion.

The Customs Area Controller (CAC), Comptroller Frank Onyeka, disclosed that the command surpassed its ₦1.524 trillion revenue target for 2025, describing the performance as a significant leap compared with previous years, stressing that the achievement reflected improved efficiency, transparency and teamwork, rather than individual effort.

Speaking earlier, the CAC said the awards initiative was part of a renewed culture within the Service to recognise diligence, professionalism and collective responsibility.

“A tree can never make a forest. I could not have done it alone; too much has been given to us, and much is expected. Officers deserved appreciation for their tireless efforts.” He said

Onyeka also highlighted operational reforms aimed at trade facilitation and internal efficiency, particularly the need to eliminate delays in file processing.

He reiterated that upon assumption of office, he directed that files should no longer be held unnecessarily, stressing the importance of clear communication and prompt decision-making.

“If there are issues with files, let them be clearly identified and addressed. If you are not sure what to do, ask,” he said

He noted that the recent launch of the Time Release Study by the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adeniyi, had further strengthened the command’s resolve to fast-track legitimate trade while ensuring strict regulatory compliance.

The CAC paid tribute to his predecessor, Deputy Comptroller of Customs, Dera Nnadi, mni, describing his tenure as “superb” and a strong foundation upon which current achievements were built.

He also acknowledged the support of the Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adeniyi MFR, stakeholders, partners and officers in sustaining confidence in the command’s operations despite prevailing economic and operational challenges.

Some award recipients, including Deputy Comptroller of Administration, Essien Essiet, attributed the command’s success to diligence and consistency, while Deputy Superintendent of Customs Jemima Garba, in charge of valuation, described the recognition as both an honour and a call to greater responsibility.

“This award allows us to work harder and do better. Whatever we achieved last year, we must improve on it. It is a work in progress.” She concluded

The ceremony, one of the command’s first major official engagements of the new year, set a confident tone for 2026, with Onyeka urging officers to consolidate gains, uphold professionalism and embrace reforms aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s ports and revenue base.
