A two-day warning strike by Nigerian aviation employees began on Monday, 17th April with a demonstration.
Unavoidably, the development left a lot of airline passengers stranded.
The following details the demands of the workforce:
1. The National Union of Air Transport Employees, the Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, the National Association of Aircraft Pilots and Engineers, and the Association of Nigerian Aviation Professionals are the unions that make up this group.
Among other things, they are demanding that the planned demolition of the aviation agencies’ head offices in Lagos be put on hold.
2. The strike was in response to a meeting called by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority that was deadlocked on Sunday.
Capt. Musa Nuhu, Director-General of Civil Aviation, convened the meeting to persuade the unions to call off their planned two-day warning strike, which was attended by union representatives.
Dr. Emmanuel Meribole, the Ministry of Aviation’s Permanent Secretary, also attended the meeting.
3. Additionally, they support the implementation of the service agreements made with the personnel of the aviation agencies.
Frances Akinjole, the ATSSSAN’s deputy general secretary, stated in a brief interview last night following the meeting, “As I am speaking to you, nothing has changed. The strike will continue if you don’t hear from the general secretary.
According to a source inside the airport, the protest was not interfering with business because the employees were “just blocking the airport road.”
On Twitter, however, there are videos that demonstrate how Monday morning traffic around the airport is impacted.
A nationwide protest against the failure to implement the new condition of service has been started, according to a tweet from @eonsintelligenc that included images.
Bi-Courtney Aviation Services Limited, who run Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal Two, did alert travelers to the strike action on Twitter and warned of potential delays and flight disruptions.
“There may be flight delays and disruptions as a result of the ongoing aviation union strike action.
“MMA2 is still being run with every effort. Please check your map for traffic updates and contact your airline to find out the status of your flight,” it said in a tweet on Monday.
It had earlier stated in a statement that MMA2 was closely monitoring the situation and would inform all customers and terminal users of any delays or potential disruptions to flight schedules.
