Governor Aminu Bello Masari has flayed officials of the Federal Ministry of Power over the delay in completing the 10mw wind farm project in Katsina, he also accused the officials of impeding progress of the economic diversification.
“At the rate at which we are going, unless there is a change of attitude by the staff of the ministry of power, in the next two years, we will not have solar power”.
“Those at the federal level are the clog in the wheel in terms of moving the diversification. Some of the technocrats in Abuja don’t believe in this diversification. They talk it but they don’t walk the talk,” he added.
Masari bemoaned the continued delay to complete the power project, stressing that the equipment has been lying idle for almost three years despite the fact that the project had reached about 95 per cent completion stage.
The governor revealed that Katsina State Government was spending N1 million on monthly basis to provide security to the windmill power project at Lambar Rimi and attributed the delay in the completion of the project to bureaucracy from the regulatory agencies in Abuja.
He called for a change of attitude from power generating companies to enable states to derive maximum benefits from programmes aimed at improving the well- being of the people.
However, the Executive Secretary of Nigeria Investment Promotion Council (NIPC), Mrs Ladi S. Katagum enjoined the Katsina State Government to set up Investment Promotion Agency assuring that the commission will train staff for the Agency.
