The Electricity Meter Manufacturers Association of Nigeria, EMMAN, has lamented that low patronage by electricity distribution companies is a major to the survival of local meter manufacturers.
EMMAN executive secretary, Mr Muyideen Ibrahim revealed that out of the distribution companies, Ibadan, Eko and Abuja distribution companies are the ones patronizing EMMAN members and it is on a low demand.
Ibrahim said most local meter manufacturers in Nigeria have retrenched lots of staff due to low demand from the Discos.
“The power firms are making money through estimated billings perhaps because the investors, who bought the assets of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN), borrowed money to acquire these assets,” he said.
To this end, Ibrahim called on the federal government to intervene in order to prevent metering industry from imminent collapse.
