Katsina State government is spending the sum of N2billion for the rehabilitation and construction of earth Dams and irrigation channels in order to encourage dry season farming in the state.
Governor Aminu Bello Masari, who spoke at the Pan-Northern Groups Summit organised by the Northern Elders Forum recently, said that the state government has intensified effort to develop and mechanise the agricultural sector through the provision of tractors, power tillers and drip irrigation kits in order to make agribusiness attractive to the youth in the state.
Masari who was represented by his deputy, Alhaji Mannir Yakubu, said the summit will address multi-dimensional challenges facing the North and the country in general.
The governor, therefore, called on the participants to come up with a robust and unified position of the north on any national dialogue that may take place in respect of recurring question of national development.
He commended President Muhammadu Buhari for taking up the fight against Boko Haram insurgency. He also commended the federal government for relocating all the Internally Displaced Persons to their respective homes.
He said the Restoration Agenda of Katsina State, is anchored on the improvement of foundation education such as primary and secondary education in the state, saying the state has embarked on massive renovation and expansion of schools across the state and provision of teaching and learning aids.
