Akwa Ibom state governor, Udom Emmanuel said that though the state is a key source of wealth to the nation, most federal roads and other federal institutions in the state are in poor state. He stated this during the South/South stakeholders town hall meeting organised by the Federal Ministry of Information.
He said,“Akwa Ibom is the largest producer of the nation’s wealth yet has no federal presence. I wish the federal government could intervene in the dilapidated road from Calabar to Akwa Ibom and through Abia to Rivers state.
“We are not asking the federal government to do everything, but we also seek approval to adopt the Public Private Partnership (PPP) model that can enable these roads to be reconstructed. The East-West road is yet to be completed and other federal roads suffer extensive neglect,” he bemoaned.
“We have intervened over the years to fix some federal roads in this state and we are being owed billons of naira and we appeal to the Minister of Works, Housing and Power, Mr Babatunde Fashola to help us in this regard,” he added.
Emmanuel noted that Akwa Ibom is the leading oil producing State in the nation, yet there is no single depot in the state.
