Ishola Babaita, the Commissioner of Police for Gombe State has instructed the Head of Departments, and Divisional Police Officers to enforce the ban on the Spy number plates.
The Police Commissioner charged the officers via a statement by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Mahid Abubakar on Friday. The ban is meant to end the continuous disregard for traffic rules and regulations.
BizWatch Nigeria recalls that the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Usman Alkali Baba had on Wednesday ordered an indefinite ban on the use of police SPY vehicle number plates across Nigeria.
Babaita through the statement said all authorisation has been revoked indefinitely, stressing that this would take care of extant laws guiding road use by individuals hiding under the privileges of SPY police number plates.
The statement partly read, “Commissioner of Police Gombe State Police Command CP Ishola Babatunde Babaita has charged HODs/DPOs and other tactical commanders to effectively and professionally ensure enforcement of this order without further delay.
“He warned enforcement officers to respect the rights of the citizens, and further states that, police officers and officers of other security agencies attached to VIPs who use the SPY number plates should ensure prompt compliance with this directive or risk being arrested for violation of this order.”
Gombe’s Police Commissioner while urging the resident to comply said that the order was geared toward strengthening in Gombe state.
“The Commissioner of Police further enjoins the residents of the state to remain law-abiding, particularly those who hitherto have been using Spy number plates to cooperate with the Police in this regard, as the ban is solely aimed at strengthening security in the State and the nation at large,” the statement added.
