The Minister for Power, Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola has appealed to Nigerians to be more patience with the government while it addressed the shortfall in supply of electricity throughout the country, promising that efforts were been intensified to proffer genuine and long lasting solution.
The Minister, represented by a Director, Bako Mohammed made this appeal in Plateau State when the Jos Electrical Distribution company (JED) began the distribution of Pre-paid meters, transformers and other relevant equipment to consumers within the zone that comprised of Plateau, Bauchi, Gombe and Benue.
He said the government appreciated the challenges Nigerians were faced with as a result of the shortfall in the power supply, “We also share the pains associated with unsatisfactory electricity supply in the country”.
He assured that the ongoing reforms in the energy sector was a genuine one and it would bring about a long lasting solution to the issue of electricity supply very home in the country.
“But a little more patience from all Nigerians is all government needs to concentrate on plans to bring about the lasting solution”, Fashola appealed.
He also urged all investors in the power sector to be committed and transparent in implementing their own part of agreement for the benefit of electricity consumers.
“The call has become necessary because Nigerians expect nothing less than quality service from the electricity distributing and billing companies all over the country”, he said.
Managing Director, of JED, Muhammed Modibo disclosed that, the company invested over N50billion to provide the equipment it distributed.
