Damascus, Mar 19 (Prensa Latina) Syria and China signed an agreement on economic and technical cooperation by virtue of which the Chinese Government will donate 100 million yuans (nearly 17 million dollars). The deal was penned by Imad Sabouni, head of the Syrian Agency for Planning and International Cooperation, and Phyong Biao, the ambassador of the People”s Republic of China.
The agreement aims to meet the needs from public institutions in the fields of electricity, customs and equipment for several ministries.
Sabouni pointed out that China also granted university, post-graduate and master scholarships, and offered assistance to improve Syria’s food security.
For his part, the Chinese ambassador noted that the assistance provided by his country to Syria since the beginning of the crisis shows the sentiments of solidarity, and pointed out that Beijing will continue to assist Damascus until the country’s total recovery.
On a separate issue, the Syrian State Company of the Pharmaceutical Industry inaugurated its new headquarters and a line to produce third-generation antibiotics, with a capacity of 20 million pills a year.
At the opening ceremony, Industry Minister Mohamed Zen Abddin Jazbeh said that this action shows the capacity of employees and technicians to work at full capacity and contribute to the security of medicines.
For his part, the director of the Company of Chemical Industries, Osama Abu Fakhr, pointed out that the new line will contribute to fulfilling the production plan this year, worth 20 million dollars.
