Bauchi State government said it will begin construction of the Yankari Independent Power Plant that will generate 110 kilowatts of electricity capable of meeting the electricity needs of the state and some parts of the neighbouring states.
Abubakar stated that “The Yankari Independent Power Plant was first initiated by the Federal Government of Nigeria under late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua for the development of cluster power plants in the country to address the problem of power outage in the nation, with Bauchi as a pilot project but later abandoned”
On assuming office last year, the Bauchi State Governor revealed that he wrote a letter to President Muhammadu Buhari, asking the President to revisit the issue of the Independent Yankari Power Project by putting it on the items to be discussed during the President’s visit to China.
He said, on return from the trip to China, he met with the minister of finance and appealed to her to “speed up the processes of accessing the loan to actualize the project”.
