The Niger State commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Mr Jonathan Tsado Vatsa has appealed to market men and women to reduce the prices of their commodities most especially food items during the Ramadan fast.
He said that reducing the prices of the food items by trader in this Holy Month of Ramadan would attract rich rewards from the almighty Allah, the creator of the universe.
Vatsa also stated that the market survey recently conducted showed that prices of staple food items in Niger State, most especially Minna markets are higher than any other markets in the North central states.
He expressed shock at the unpleasant situation because according to him, food items are cheaper in Niger State if compared to other states of the federation.
He therefore called on traders in all markets of the state to use the month of Ramadan as a period during which they will get closer to Almighty God.
Earlier, the Niger State governor, Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello has appealed to market women and men to be considerate and avoid exploiting the masses. According to a statement issued by the chief press secretary, Jibrin Ndace, he lamented that the cost of basic foodstuffs are going out of the reach of the masses.
