Nigeria’s Women Basketball Team, D’Tigress has made it with a dramatic 70-69 win over South Korea in the second game of the 2016 Women Olympic Qualifying Tournament (WOQT) yesterday.
Nigeria had lost to Belarus in the opening game of the tournament on Monday night, before roaring to the slim victory in the second game yesterday afternoon.
South Korea took the first quarter 13-20 in the tightly fought game, but a last-ditch three-point shot by Ezinne Kalu After trailing for most of the contest, Ezinne Kalu hit a three-pointer with 4.6 seconds left to play to rescue Nigeria from a potential elimination.
Also, Adaoa Elonu scored 13 points, 6 rebounds and four assists, the second highest after Korea’s Ajeong Kang, who scored 22 points,2 rebounds and 3 assists in the keenly contested encounter.
D’Tigress took the second, third and fourth quarters 15-13, 19-18 and 23-18 respectively to emerge winners.
They will have to wait for the outcome of the game between Belarus and South Korea, which comes up today, Wednesday, to confirm their qualification for the quarterfinals.
