NAFDAC Raises Alarm Over Dangers Of Bleaching Cream

Over 70% Of Food Exported By Nigeria Are Rejected - NAFDAC

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has declared a pandemic of “dangerous” and “unregulated” bleaching creams on the market.

NAFDAC made this known on Tuesday during its ‘Media Sensitization Workshop on the Dangers of Bleaching Creams and Regulatory Controls’ in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.

Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, the agency’s Director General, also lamented the health risks associated with long-term use of dangerous agents and urged Nigerian women to be proud of their skin color, saying, “There’s no need to bleach.”

Adeyeye, who was represented by Dr Patrick Leonard Omokpariola, the agency’s Director of Chemical Evaluation and Research, stated that the products are now marketed under different names for sales purposes.

Ebele Anto, Deputy Director of NAFDAC, also asked for the media’s help in educating Nigerians about the benefits of having dark skin.
