The Lagos State Government on Wednesday has sanctioned the development of a Medical Park worth N49 billion to improve healthcare experience and promote medical tourism.
The Commissioner for Health, Dr Jide Idris, during a news conference in Ikeja, said that the park would be sited at the former Lagos State School of Nursing in Ikoyi.
He also stated that approval had been given to Medipark International Ltd. Consortium, U.S. to develop, construct, manage and operate the medical park. The park would be the first of its kind in Nigeria when completed.
“It is a joint venture arrangement with the state government; the huge bulk of the money is coming from the consortium while the government is putting down the site as equity.The facility will be built and completed in 20 months starting from the day of construction,” he said.
The commissioner also said that the park would serve as a one-stop shopping medical experience offering space to primary care physicians and in-house specialists, as well as ancillary services and it would provide a full spectrum of medical technology and diagnostic services.
Idris said that the park would cater for general and specialized medical services tailored to improve healthcare of residents and Nigerians at large.
