Equity transactions at the Nigerian Stock Exchange, NSE, on Tuesday, August 9, continued movement south as lead indices on the bourse shed 0.45 percent.
Specifically, the All-Share Index plunged by 122.84 points to close at 27,272.14 basis points compared with 30.88 points dropped in previous session to close at 27,394.98 basis points.
The market capitalisation also dropped N42.2 billion to close at N9.366 trillion compared with a loss of N10.6 billion to close at N9.408 trillion on Monday,expanding the year to date losses by 4.78 percent.
Sterling Bank Plc led the day’s 31 declining stocks with a loss of 9.38 percent or 12 kobo to close at N1.16 per share. International Breweries Plc followed with a decrease of 5.0 percent or 95 kobo to close at N18.05 per share, MOBIL and MRS Oil Plc also dipped 5.0 percent each or N8.93 and N2.03 to close at N169.67 and N38.57 per share respectively.
Berger Paints Plc joined the top five losers with a 4.97 percent or 36 kobo depreciation of its stock value to close at N6.89 per share.
Conversely, Wapic Insurance Plc topped the day’s 6 gainers with an appreciation of 4 percent or 2 kobo to close at 52 kobo per share, Total Oil Plc followed with a gain of 2.63 percent or N6.05 to close at N236 per share and Skye Bank Plc garnered 1.47 percent or 1 kobo to close at 69 kobo per share.
FBN Holdings Plc improved by 0.30 percent or 1 kobo to close at N3.30 per share and Nigerian Breweries Plc added 0.23 percent or 30 kobo to close at N130.30 per share.
WAPIC was the most active, accounting for 153.9 million shares worth N76.9 million, FBN Holdings came second with a total of 69.1 million shares valued at N227.8 million and UBA third with a sale of 38.5 million shares worth N174.4 million.
The volume of shares traded in 3,443 deals during the day’s session was 416.8 million worth N2.2 billion compared with 118.4 million shares worth N1.27 billion exchanged in 2,899 deals on Monday.
