The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) on Thursday, September 7, 2023 approved the transfer and assignment of the 10MHz (FDD) in the 2.6GHz Spectrum Band from OPENSKYS Services (OS) Limited to MTN Nigeria Communications Plc.
The 10MHz spectrum being transferred falls under the Frequency Division Duplex (FDD) technology. FDD is a method of using separate frequencies for transmitting and receiving data, commonly used in wireless communication systems.
The 2.6GHz Spectrum Band are the radio frequencies valuable for wireless communications, including mobile data services.

The acquisition of more spectrum will improve MTN’s network strength. Subscribers will enjoy faster internet speeds and better coverage, thereby improving their experience. Spectrum efficiency is crucial in meeting the National Broadband Plan (2020-2025). Nigeria’s broadband penetration has reached 48% from 41% in January 2022.
