The Federal Government has invited labor leaders for a meeting over the recent hike in the price of fuel, it was gathered on Sunday, May 15.
Labour had over the weekend said that government should reverse the hike which brought pump price to N145 or else it would shut down government offices, airports and markets from Wednesday, May 18.
According to a source, the meeting is expected to hold today, Monday, May 16, and the government will try to dissuade labour from embarking on an indefinite strike from Wednesday.
NLC President Comrade Ayuba Wabba told Daily Trust over the phone that he was aware that an invitation for talks had been sent from the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
He however said the letter had not been delivered because Sunday was a work- free day.
Sources said the government wanted to meet the leaders of the Nigeria Labour Congress and Trade Union Congress today to sort out the areas of disagreement.
Asked about the latest development regarding its planned nationwide strike, Wabba said the communiqué jointly issued by organized labour on Saturday concerning the strike subsisted.
