The Kwara State government has reaffirmed its determination to ensure that the issue of workers’ salary arrears in the state-owned tertiary institutions is resolved soon.
The special adviser on Labour and Students Matters to Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed, Comrade Bisi Fakayode made this known during a meeting with officials of the National Association of Nigeria Students (NANS) Joint Campus Committee in the state.
Fakayode said that the state government was working to improve on present situation of educational sector in the state. He also revealed that the government has approved immediate disbursement of fund for payment of salary of the staff of the state’s College of Arabic and Islamic Legal Studies, Ilorin. He added that salary of staff of other colleges and SUBEB would soon be paid.
He further noted that the state government had approved the provision of transport scheme for students of the Kwara State University, Malete and University of Ilorin, adding that development of infrastructural facilities in primary, secondary and tertiary institutions in the state would soon be embarked upon.
Meanwhile, the president of NANS Joint Campus Committee, Comrade Habeeb Tajudeen, said that the group had planned a rally to call the attention of the state government to the decadence in the educational system in the state. He stressed that the group had no score to settle with government except calling its attention to matters on education and welfare.
The president said their agitation was premised on dilapidated infrastructure in schools in the state, as well as general welfare of both staff and students in the state.
