MAIN STORY
Two young men, Mubarak Adamu, 25, and Abba Abdullahi, 23, have been arraigned before the Dutse Senior Magistrates’ Court in Abuja over an alleged knife attack on a businessman.
The defendants appeared before Magistrate Umar Dodo on Monday on charges of joint act, causing grievous hurt and mischief under Sections 79, 247 and 327 of the Penal Code Law.
The prosecution alleged that the incident occurred on Sept. 15 after the complainant, Isaac David, boarded a tricycle at War College in Abuja, heading towards Oando Filling Station in Gwarinpa.
Prosecutor Juliana Atinko told the court that the defendants allegedly attacked David with a knife before he reached his destination, causing an injury to his right hand.
She further alleged that the defendants damaged David’s Samsung phone, which was valued at N1.5 million.
The case followed a report made by David at the Gwarinpa Police Station, according to the prosecutor.
When the charges were read to them, Adamu and Abdullahi pleaded not guilty.
The prosecution subsequently asked the court to fix a date for hearing of the case.
Magistrate Dodo granted both defendants bail, subject to conditions requiring each of them to provide two reasonable sureties, an affidavit and an undertaking.
Each surety was also required to provide a bail bond of N150,000.
The court adjourned the matter until Oct. 12 for hearing.
THE ISSUES
- The prosecution alleges that the defendants attacked David with a knife and caused an injury to his right hand. The allegation has not been established by the court, as the defendants pleaded not guilty.
