A coordinated terrorist assault on Logomani community in Ngala Local Government Area of Borno State has left critical public infrastructure in ruins after suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP insurgents attacked a military base before setting civilian facilities ablaze.
The attackers reportedly stormed the community late Tuesday night, first targeting the Forward Operating Base operated by troops of Operation Hadin Kai. During the confrontation, one soldier lost his life, while two military gun trucks and other combat equipment sustained damage.
Following the clash with troops, the insurgents allegedly fired sporadically to disperse residents before moving deeper into the community, where they torched a police outpost, a primary healthcare centre and two classrooms in a primary school.
Military authorities said troops successfully repelled the assault after regrouping and launching a counter-offensive that forced the terrorists to retreat, with several reportedly sustaining gunshot wounds during the exchange.
Security officials added that reinforcements have since been deployed to the area, while exploitation operations and additional defensive measures are ongoing to reinforce the military position.
A combined security team comprising the military, the police and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force reportedly pursued the fleeing insurgents after the attack.
Meanwhile, the Executive Chairman of Ngala Local Government Council, Mala Tijjani Ngala, visited the affected community to assess the extent of the destruction. The inspection covered the damaged police outpost, healthcare facility and school, with the council promising to forward its findings to the Borno State Government for immediate intervention.
The chairman also appealed to residents to remain calm and continue cooperating with security agencies.

“Although the insurgents briefly exploited a section of the base’s defensive perimeter during the intense firefight, the troops rapidly regrouped, mounted a determined counter-offensive and decisively expelled the attackers, inflicting significant casualties and forcing the surviving terrorists to flee with varying degrees of gunshot wounds,” Goni stated.
“Regrettably, one gallant soldier paid the supreme price, while two gun trucks and some combat enablers sustained damage during the engagement,” he added.
“We all left the community during the attack. The terrorists were very sophisticated. After they overpowered the Army, they entered the school and burnt down two classrooms. They also attacked a police outpost and a hospital, which they burnt down,” a resident, who requested anonymity, said.
