We Will Tackle Poverty Through Agriculture – Shettima

Governor of Borno State, Kashim Shettima has pledged that his administration will fight poverty through irrigation farming. He disclosed this while on inspection tour of various projects embarked upon by state in Maiduguri.

Shettima said the Orchard farming projects embarked by his administration is to enable rural dwellers to tackle poverty in their communities through farming, adding that the programme will create jobs for the youths.

“One of the cardinal objectives of this administration is to improve the lives of our people in tangible ways. In our mission towards the reduction of poverty in the state, we have identified agriculture as one of the keys to economic prosperity,” he said.http://bizwatchnigeria.ng/borno-invest-n30bn-agriculture-shettima/

The governor revealed that the state government has procured over 6 million improved seedlings of citrus, mangoes, cashews, dates among others for planting in some communities in the state. He also inspected over eight boreholes between Auno and Beneishek.

The boreholes were drilled using some of the Dando supper drilling rigs and equipment acquired by the state government. He said the equipment will aid the provision of potable water to the villagers and enhance irrigation scheme of the government for its orchard farming project.

At Tamsukawu village in Kaga local government area where the villagers were earlier sacked by Boko Haram insurgents before setting their houses ablaze, Shettima inspected the 150 Housing Estate constructed by the state government for the returning villagers.
