Medical Marijuana Price Slumps to $1,465/Pound

The spot price index for a pound of cannabis dropped by 1.9% from $1,493 in the prior week to $1,465, for the week ended Friday, December 16.

According to the analysts at Cannabis Benchmarks, the simple average price for a gram decreased from $3.96 to $3.89.

The futures price for the near month (January) fell from $1,625 to $1,575. For the month of February, the forward price also declined, from $1,650 to $1,600 a pound.

The six-month forward price (June) remained unchanged at $1,725 a pound. About two-thirds of the past week’s transactions occurred in a range of $1,259 to $2,270 per pound.

This week the analysts commented on the price premium for medical marijuana: Prices for product designated as medical maintained their premium over that destined to be sold to general consumers for the second consecutive week, reestablishing the pattern observed prior to late November, when rates for adult-use product gained ascendancy temporarily.

The recreational / adult-use markets of Colorado, Oregon, and Washington State all saw price declines this week, 247wallst.com reports.

Rates were up in virtually all states with legal medical cannabis markets, though it should be noted that small declines observed in two of the larger medical cannabis states, California and Arizona, resulted in a marginal decrease in prices for medical product overall.
