Main story
The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Police Command, Mr Fatai Tijani, has assured residents of robust security arrangements across the state ahead of the Easter celebrations.
Speaking with journalists in Ikeja on Friday, Tijani said the command had strategically deployed officers to churches, recreational centres, and other key public locations to guarantee a peaceful festive period.
He noted that security presence would be heightened across areas expected to witness large gatherings, particularly places of worship.
The police chief further reassured residents of their safety, emphasising that visible policing and proactive measures would be sustained throughout the period.
Tijani attributed the state’s relative security stability to sustained operations and the cooperation of residents, noting that Lagos continues to rank among the safer states in the country.
The issues
Festive periods such as Easter often witness increased human movement and public gatherings, which can heighten security risks, including petty crimes and potential threats to public safety.
What’s being said
The Commissioner urged residents to remain calm, law-abiding, and security-conscious, stressing that effective policing requires active public participation.
“There is no cause for fear. We are working to ensure that Lagos remains secure and safe. You can sleep with both eyes closed,” Tijani said, while encouraging citizens to report suspicious activities promptly.
“Churches of interest will be covered with security. Officers have already been strategically deployed to all public gatherings to ensure a smooth celebration.’’
“You will see security all over the place, so you can rest assured that Lagos is safe,” he added.
What’s next
The Lagos Police Command is expected to sustain heightened patrols, surveillance, and rapid response mechanisms before, during, and after the Easter celebrations, with continued collaboration between security agencies and the public.
Bottom line
With increased deployment and community cooperation, authorities are positioning Lagos for a peaceful Easter, reinforcing the importance of shared responsibility in maintaining public safety.
