FG, NLC Meet To Resolve Nationwide Strike

NLC Condemns NNPC's New Fuel Price

The Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, and the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele on Monday met with the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in order to avert a nationwide strike.

BizWatch Nigeria recalls that NLC had given Federal Govern a seven-day ultimatum to end the country’s naira scarcity. NLC President Joe Ajaero had threatened to go on strike if the issue was not resolved by the deadline.

Ngige then convened a meeting on Monday with the apex bank’s leadership and the NLC to resolve the issue.

This was revealed in a statement by Olajide Oshundun, Director of Press and Public Relations at the Ministry of Labour and Employment.

“The NLC delegation of ten members was led by President Comrade Joe Ajaero and General Secretary Emmanuel Ugboaja, while CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele was accompanied by two Deputy Governors, Kingsley Obiora (Economic Policy) and Ade Shonubi (Organised Private Sector),” according to the statement.

In his remarks, the minister refuted the NLC’s claim that his ministry did nothing about the situation.

The minister of labour stated that upon receiving the letter from the NLC, he forwarded it to the CBN governor before departing for an International Labour Organization (ILO) Governing Board meeting and directed the Permanent Secretary and Trade Union Services and Industrial Relations Department to follow up.
