Facebook Celebrates ‘Girl Power’ In New Emojis

In an effort to “make emojis more representative of the world we live in,” Facebook announced today that they are creating their own emoji to celebrate the “girl power.”

With their announcement today, Facebook is joining the club. In a post, Facebook explained, “No matter what emoji you pick, it will now look the same for all Messenger users, regardless if the recipient is on Android, iOS or another platform.”

Instead of the traditional male police officer emoji, Facebook Messenger will display a female cop. Same goes with the pedestrian, surfer and swimmer emoji. Google recently proposed that Unicode, the organization response for emoji, add professional women emoji in an effort to make emoji less sexist. Hopefully Unicode will follow in Facebook’s footsteps.

For the one, emojis aren’t the same across the board. Apple, Google, Windows, Twitter, Samsung, HTC and a host of other platforms all have their own design for emoji. For example, here’s how the grinning emoji looks on multiple platforms:

you will also be able to choose the skin color of your emoji on Facebook Messenger. And listen up gingers, for the first time, your hair color will finally be represented in emoji.
The Facebook Messenger emoji would be available today, June 2.
