Cross River Deep Sea Project Will Create 30,000 Jobs – Gov Ayade

Cross River State Governor, Ben Ayade, has expressed confidence that the proposed multi-billion naira Cross River Deep Sea project will create over 30,000 jobs in the state. While speaking with newsmen after a closed door meeting with President Buhari at the Presidential villa, he said the state Super Highway is expected to take off fully in August.

The governor also lauded President Buhari for his commitment towards ensuring that the super highway project takes off.

The deep seaport which is located around Bakassi waterways and the Atlantic Ocean is part of Ayade’s major projects, which will include the 260-kilometer super highway linking Calabar metropolis to Katsina-Ala in Benue State.

He also stated that besides Cross River ,neighbouring Nasarawa and Kogi States are expected to benefit from the deep sea projects as it would ease movement of products from the states.

Speaking further on the benefit of the new highway project ,Ayade said: “It will act as a route for modern vessels and create not less than 30,000 jobs. It would also aid business activities in the state.

“In basic clear terms, that highway and the deep seaport will benefit Kogi and Nasarawa states because without a deep seaport, it will be almost impossible to explore the iron ore export in those states.

“That is why those who understand what a federal structure looks like would have a coastline in the north and south regions of Nigeria. Having one major port in Lagos and another in Calabar will feed the North East and North Central from Calabar and North West and the Middle Belt from Lagos.”

It will be recalled that President Buhari had on October 20, 2015 performed the ground-breaking ceremony at Obung village in Akamkpa local council.
