President Bola Tinubu says Nigeria’s economy is showing clear signs of recovery while security operations across the country are improving through stronger coordination among security and intelligence agencies.
The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, disclosed this on Tuesday after leading members of the National Communications Team to a meeting with the President at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
The delegation comprised members of the Presidential Media Team and chief executives of key government information agencies, including the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Voice of Nigeria (VON) and the National Orientation Agency (NOA).
According to Idris, the meeting reviewed public perceptions of government policies and provided an opportunity for the President to assess the administration’s communication strategy while receiving feedback on citizens’ concerns.
“The President has told us several times the economy is turning the corner. We now know that the economy has turned the corner,” Idris said.
He added that Tinubu expressed confidence that ongoing economic reforms—including foreign exchange liberalisation, fuel subsidy removal and fiscal adjustments—are beginning to deliver measurable results despite the short-term hardship experienced by many Nigerians.
On security, Idris said the President acknowledged existing challenges but maintained that improved collaboration among the military, intelligence community and other security agencies was producing better operational outcomes across the country.
The President also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to press freedom while urging journalists and media organisations to uphold professional standards and work with government institutions to curb fake news, misinformation and AI-generated disinformation.
