UNDP Pledges To Assist FG In Cleanup Of Ogoniland Oil Spill

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has pledged to assist the Federal Government in making sure that clean-up of oil spills in Ogoniland takes place as soon as possible.

UNDP Country Director,  Pa Lamin Beyai, who made this known in Abuja yesterday, said that the cleanup would help in the livelihood of the people in the area.

He congratulated the Federal Government for taking some measures in helping out in environmental remediation in Ogoniland as proposed by the UN Environment Programme (UNEP).

The report on Ogoniland was released on August 4,2011.

Beyai also said that  UNDP had been supporting Nigeria in mitigating the impact of climate change and other environmental challenges, and that the organisation is assisted in preparing the Nigerian team for negotiation at the 21st conference of parties to Climate Change in Paris in 2015
