Osinbajo Reveals FG Plans To Establish Technology Hubs In Abuja, Lagos

Vice president Yemi Osinbajo has revealed that the Federal Government has concluded plans to establish technology hubs in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja and Lagos to drive its innovative and creative agenda.

Osinbajo said,  “In the 2016 Budget, the Federal Government intends to establish two super hubs in Lagos and Abuja  and these of course are technology hubs and subsequently six zonal hubs in the six zonal geo-political zones of the country. We already have some technology companies willing to resource these hubs and also put in place some capacity buildings tools. Each hub will be designed to produce some relevant innovative technology solutions.”

According to him, the government will shop for experts in alternative energy solutions in public service delivery , especially in  key areas like the healthcare, education and agriculture , saying the sectors are very important to the present government.

He, however, stated that there are lots more innovations that can be done in delivering governance and social services, urging Nigerians to be creative and innovative in their services.

“In July this year, we have budgeted for the training of 65,000 young Nigerians in more sophisticated software and hardware services. Basically we intend to create a reservoir of human capacity in technology,” he said.

He added that plans are also afoot to train 500,000 graduates in relevant technologies, saying they will be mainly volunteer teachers and could be entrepreneur if they so wish, urging Nigerians to embrace made in Nigeria products, saying the country has no choice given the foreign exchange crises rocking it.
