Lagos State governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, president of Nigerian Stock Exchange, NSE , Mr. Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede, chairman, Zenith Bank Plc, Mr. Jim Ovia, and chairman, Famfa Oil, Mr. Modupe Alakija were among prominent Nigerians that converged on Lagos to establish Mobile Cancer Centres, (MCC) for the state.
Amobode said the fund raising to procure the MCCs was the first step towards winning the fight against cancer. He revealed this at a forum designed to raise the funds at Amobode’s 53rd birthday celebration organised by the Committee Encouraging Corporate Philanthropy (CECP) held at the Lagos House, Ikeja.
He further noted that the facilities would be deployed to the three senatorial districts to fight cancer in Lagos State.
“This will help us save millions of Nigerians from the cancer scourge. Without this donation, the war against cancer cannot be achieved. And the opportunity to save life will be lost.
“It is not a celebration but a call to act because against all odds especially the economic downturn, you all are still ready to stand-up and give back to the society. There is more value to ourselves and humanity than we ever imagine,” he said.
According to him, those still in the corporate world who want to support the course could come on board, saying the door is still open. He reiterated that this forms one of the reasons the committee came together to embark on such a project on his birthday.
