Niger state governor, Sani Bello has revealed that the government will adopt whole school development approach to take schools in the state to international standard even as the state is to kick- start the school feeding programme for primary school pupils in the state.
He made this disclosure during the flag -off of training of key stakeholders as change agents by the University of Cambridge London under the Transforming Education Sector (TENS) at Justice Legbo Kutigi Conference centre, Minna.
“The whole approach is an idea premised on comprehensive development of some selected schools to an international standard in terms of the infrastructures, teaching aids, laboratories motivation for the teachers and their welfare.
“However, due to challenges of funding, government has been systematic in the implementation such that we are taking the processes in stages where two schools are selected from each senatorial zone in the state to kick- start the whole school approach project,” he said.
The governor directed the ministry of Education, Science and Technology to carry out a pilot scheme with a view to implementing the feeding project in all primary schools in the state.
“We benefited from such schemes when we were young. Ministry of Education, Science and Technology should embark on a pilot scheme to enable us capture all schools in the state,” he directed.
He said he was aware of some of the challenges concerning the sector in the state and expressed his readiness to restore education standard in the state and lay solid foundation for it to attain global standard.
