The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) has threatened to take a legal action against the All Progressives Congress (APC) for spreading false information about the agency, after the APC alleged that NIMASA contracted its (NIMASA) security job to Global West, allegedly owned by Tompolo.
Director General of NIMASA, Ziakede Akpolokemi, issued the threat on Sunday in Lagos while addressing journalists.
“We want to set the record straight that Global West does not belong to Tompolo, neither does NIMASA contracted its security job to Global West,” he said.
He further advised those who are in doubt to go to the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) and verify.
According to Akpolokemi, the job of securing oil vessels has been the collaborative effort of the agency, the Navy, Army and other security agents.
“Oil theft is reducing significantly everyday because of the collaborative efforts of the JTF, Navy, Air force and other security agents.”
Akpolokemi expressed surprise on why the presidential candidate of the APC, Muhammadu Buhari, takes delight in giving false information to the public “all the time.”
He further stated that the agency has no option but to take a legal action against the party if it fails to retract and apologise to NIMASA within 72 hours, while also accusing the party of misinforming Nigerians that NIMASA is involved in campaign for President Goodluck Jonathan in the media.
The NIMASA DG appealed to politicians to allow the agency carry out its traditional roles instead of being dragged into the local politics of the country.
“We want to appeal to our politicians to stop dragging NIMASA into the politics of this country because it is a distraction, which would impede the traditional role of the agency,” the statement added.
