The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, NIMASA, has said the recent collapse of all federal government’s ministries, departments and agencies accounts to the Treasury Single Accounts (TSA) did not in any way affect its operations.
NIMASA Acting Director General, Haruna Baba Jauro said on Thursday, November 19, at a visit to Daily Trust headquarters in Abuja that the TSA is like just dealing with any other commercial bank.
“We have no problem with the TSA, it is flowing naturally. The Remita has given us a platform wherein we just upload our payments and they go direct to the accounts of the payees,” he added.
He explained that so far the agency has been paying only staff emoluments, staff allowances and have been doing that smoothly without any problem. “We don’t know may be when we come to the payment of contract or contractors but we feel it is going to be the same.”
According to him, “when things start newly, you must have some teething problems, what we had earlier was the understanding of the system itself with how it works but we have had some sessions with the Remita people, they have opened our eyes to some issues. Though new things will still come up as we continue but for now we don’t have any problem, it is moving smoothly.”
