Transport Minister Gives Assurance On Railways

Senator Umar Abdullahi Idris, the Minister of Transport, has assured Nigerians that trains would be back on track by the middle of this year, in spite of the challenges of erosion threat on some locations along the track. He gave this assurance at Garin-Wandara, Funakay Local Government Area of Gombe State where he inspected one of the erosion threatened spots.

He told the contractors to address all the problems in the entire corridor in order to meet the timeline insisting that the government would not compromise quality, challenging them to meet up with expectations as fast as possible, because time is essential.

“My expectation is, and that is the promise we have been making to Nigerians that by the middle of this year, these works will be completed so that the train would be back on track from Portharcourt to Maiduguri or at least Ashaka,” Idris said.

He urged the contracting firm to ensure that it takes all decisions concerning the best approach to the situation before the end of the month, so that work can start early next month.
