Strike Looms: Air Traffic Controllers Under Fire For Downgrading Nigeria’s Airspace

Air Traffic Controllers in Nigeria have come under serious criticism from Aircraft operators and other users of the Nigerian airports, for misinforming both the local and international communities about the state of Nigerian airports.

The ATC had recently alleged that the nation does not have working landing aids and that the Total Radar Coverage of Nigeria (TRACON) had broken down.

Through their union, the National Air Traffic Controllers Association (NATCA), had in a statement, requested for improved welfare and also notified the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) of their plan to embark on strike and shut down the airspace.

Reacting to the statement, industry stakeholders censured the Controllers, describing their action as a clear act of sabotage and sheer blackmail, adding that they downgraded the industry because they want the NAMA management to give in to their demands.
