States May Not Get Revenue Sharing Formular This Year

Going by the agitation by States for new types of geographical terrains to be used for the new formula, the pledge by the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission to give the nation a new revenue sharing formula before the end of the 2013 fiscal year may not be fulfilled.

This follows the decision of RMAFC to let the terrain in each state and local government area of the country play a role in determining what accrues to each entity from the Federation Account.

However, the 36 of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory are finding it difficult to agree on the classification of the country into only three terrain types.

While some states in the northern part of the country want RMAFC to recognise desert as a special geographical terrain, their counterparts in the South want coastal nature treated as a special terrain.
