Operatives of the State Security Service (SSS) on Wednesday assured the family of kidnapped Chairman of Ejigbo Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Mr. Kehinde Bamigbetan, that it is on a serious tracking mission of the politician’s abductors and that it was optimistic of the council boss’ early return.
A source at the SSS who preferred anonymity, disclosed that the service was already on the trail of the kidnappers, adding that if all things work out accordingly, the victim would soon return to the warm embrace of his family. He said: “We are all careful not to release anything that will jeopardize investigations at this point but just know that we are on their trail and would soon round them up. We are also working in conjunction with the police to unravel this case.”
He however refused to state if the abduction was perpetrated by an insider like most previous abduction cases, rather he said when the suspects are caught, they would be able to ascertain that during interrogation. While accusing fingers have been pointed at the victim’s political opponents and his driver who was in the car with him, the source said they would have all the answers once the suspects are caught.
Mr. Damasus Ozoani, Deputy Public Relations Officer of the Lagos State Police Command, when contacted, said the command’s investigations were ongoing. While refusing to speak on the latest development in terms of rescue operations, Ozoani said disclosing such would jeopardise the progress they had made so far in tracking the suspects.
He said: “All I can tell you is that investigations are in top gear and that we are on a fast track. We have made considerable progress as at now.”
Ozoani said contrary to claims that only the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) was deployed for the operation, all the relevant departments and sections are involved in the investigation.
