President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday ordered the Ministries of Works and Lands, Housing and Urban Development to present for approval and implementation, a plan to expedite action on the revitalization and expansion of the nation’s vocational training centres.
Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity Mallam Garba Shehu, in a statement, said the gave the directive after being told at a meeting with the Board of Directors of Julius Berger Construction Company that due to shortage of competent construction workers and artisans in Nigeria, many construction companies were forced to bring in skilled workers from abroad.
According to the President, the influx was very detrimental to his administration’s commitment to boosting employment opportunities for young Nigerians.
To this end, he pledged that his government would promptly address the shortage of skilled construction workers in the country.
Buhari was quoted as assuring that his administration would take necessary action to rapidly re-position the vocational training centres as efficient producers of skilled workers for the nation’s building and construction industry.
