After a month of sitting at home, civil servants in Plateau State have resumed work.
The workers who embarked on strike on the 5th of last month over six months unpaid salaries decided to resume work following appeals by Governor Simon Lalong who has promised to pay two months’ salary within this week.
The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) which called the workers out on the strike on Tuesday, June 9, confirmed that the action has indeed been suspended.
The state chairman of the NLC, Comrade Jibrin Bancir said the NLC was taking Lalong by his word with the hope that he would pay part of the salary arrears as promptly as he has promised.
The decision of the NLC did not come as a surprise as Governor Lalong made a strong appeal to the striking workers on the day of his inauguration, May 29th, and has repeated the appeal on almost every occasion that he has spoken since then.
