The former National Publicity and Secretary of the defunct Social Democratic Party (SDP), Dr. Terkura Suswam, has warned that the ‘do or die attitude’ of politicians could present a great danger to the 2015 general elections.
Suswam, who gave the warning on Sunday, at his country home in Anyii in Logo Local Government Area of Benue State, while playing host to the National President of the Agricultural and Allied Employees Union of Nigerian (AAEUN), Simon Anchaver, and notable labor leaders in the state.
He asked Nigerian politicians to “play the game by the rules rather than resort to do or die, or desperate actions all in a bid to wrestle power from the ruling party.” “Political leaders must realize that the emergence of a leader in any country or geo-graphical entity is through God’s ordination and not by the desperate actions of a group of persons or individuals,” he stressed.
He said the PDP have made steady progress in improving the condition of the country since 1999.
Speaking, Anchaver, who is also the Chairman of the Benue State Council of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), said the visit of labour leaders to the PDP stalwart was prompted by the numerous unfolding events in the state and the need for consultations with leaders of thought across the state.
He said: “We are here to consult with you because of your vast experience in the politics and governance of this country and also to abreast you with some issues that concern the wellbeing of workers and the generality of the people Benue State.
“Labour will be counting on your support as we strive to better the lot of our people and also ensure sustained government-labour relationship in Benue State.”
