Ogun to Establish N30bn Cancer Institute

The Ogun State Government, yesterday, revealed that it has concluded arrangements with an American-based Global Cancer Control outfit for the establishment of a cancer institute, as part of its commitment to fight cancer in Nigeria.

During a press conference held yesterday in Abeokuta, the state Commissioner for Health, Mr. Olaokun Soyinka, stated that the cancer centre will facilitate academic affiliation and improve an enhanced relationship between the tertiary institution and the cancer study center.

The institute is expected to cost about N30 billion and is to focus on the research, training and treatment of cancer.

The institute, which is part of the Public Private Partnership (PPP) of the Governor Ibikunle Amosun administration, will be the first of its kind in Africa and will be sited at the Olabisi Onabanjo Teaching Hospital, OOUTH, Shagamu.
